hollin hills yard sale sept 28

The annual Hollin Hills Community Yard Sale is set for Saturday, Sept. 28th from 9 am to 12 pm at the Hollin Hills Pool (corner of Fort Hunt Road and Paul Spring Road). Rain date is October 26.

All Hollin Hills residents are welcome to come and set up shop! Clean out those closets and enjoy a wonderfully social day of meeting and haggling/trading/gossiping with neighbors and friends. It’s always  a blast. Just bring your own tables and anything else you need for set-up.

Want to join us? Please email Alyson Burgess for more information.

New this year: instead of asking all sellers to make and post signs (which were disappearing/being removed), we are making two big reusable banners to hang by the parking lot, and are asking for a contribution of $10 from sellers to defer the cost.

designing american living: a tour of woodlawn and pope-leighey house

Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House provide a unique opportunity to put two American styles of architecture – separated by over a century – in conversation with one another. Take a close look at both houses to examine what it was that the architects who built these homes were trying to convey about the people who lived here, the period they lived in, and what they thought the future held.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for students. Click for more info.

meeting on airplane noise

A study is now being conducted by consultants at Vianair to find ways to mitigate airplane noise impacting communities South of the Airport (SOA). A public meeting about the study will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at 7:00 PM. A Zoom link for the meeting and more information can be found at Supervisor Storck’s website.

You can fill out a survey in the above website on how airplane noise affects your quality of life. At the survey link in the website, click on the box, Community Engagement, and then scroll down for a link to Take the Survey. I encourage everyone to complete the survey. It only takes a few minutes and will help the SOA Project team as we push for noise relief in our community.

Thanks for your help.

Bob Meier, Mt Vernon Representative on the SOA Design Committee
