Friends With Benefits

On Saturday June 27, more than 60 of Hollin Hills’ most glittery glitterati gathered at the Friends of Hollin Hills’ annual fundraiser, raising some $5,000 for the parks and other worthy causes.

Not many events in Hollin Hills can be labelled as “glamorous” — we’re more likely to be found in mud-stained jeans, yanking weeds out of the parks — but the “Drinks with Friends” fundraisers (friendraisers?) are about as snazzy as it gets, with usually a few tuxedoes and evening gowns in attendance. This year’s soirée was more laid-back — a tiki-themed bash (Hawaiian shirts encouraged!), where the lei-bedecked guests gathered at Barbara Bogue and Gary Koopman’s stylish poolside pad on Drury Lane. We put away gallons of custom cocktails, savored (or gluttoned) our way through a six-stop “tasting experience,” and generally unleashed our inner party animals (or what’s left of them, anyway).

Many thanks to the lovely and talented Ann Ashley for pulling together the catering, and to those always-dazzling trend-setters David Rivera, Dan Schulke, Jaelith Hall-Rivera, Roxy Hoveyda, Matthew Kies, Luana Luna, Braden Tempas, Chelsea Rutherford, Jack Spittell and many more, for bringing off the event with what we can only call, in our best Hawaiian, “Nani nō!”
