inside: eclectic modern

When this couple — a journalist, and an international development specialist — bought their Martha’s Road home in 2002, they brought with them an eclectic collection of artifacts from their years living and working in Africa and Asia. They began collecting vintage Scandinavian Modern furniture and midcentury art as well, and now live in a comfortable mishmash of rya rugs, Burmese antiques, reindeer skins, furniture by Finn Juhl, Hans Wegner and Børge Mogensen, African sculpture and modernist European ceramics, all watched over by a dreamlike landscape by Nicholas Wilton. The couple also remodeled both bathrooms and built a water feature inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, and recently tried their hand at a dry Japanese rock garden.
